Surface Planning

Carry vs Drag

Dragging redistributes material along the path of the implement; carrying separates the collection point from the placement point. Dragging can suit local smoothing. Contained carrying becomes useful when a measured surplus must reach a specific deficit without continually spilling across the intervening ground.

Plan the surface handover

BeforeMap where material starts and where it needs to finish.
Work stageCompare the distance, required quantity and access. Include loading, turns, unloading and final trimming in the work cycle.
AfterBlend the placed material into the receiving surface and check the final fall.

What to verify

Compare completed, verified surface per hour rather than just travel speed.

Confirm the proposed configuration, worksite conditions and intended use before deployment. Describe the function required and assess it with the complete tractor and implement combination. Concept illustrations are not confirmation of available equipment or approved loading.

Scope and limits

A scraper is not always preferable: short local maintenance can favour a land plane or blade.
