Surface Planning

From Rough Grade to Fine Grade

Rough grading establishes the broad shape; fine grading corrects the remaining smaller deviations. Trying to finish while bulk quantities are still wrong can waste passes and disturb completed areas. The changeover should occur when levels are close enough, materials are suitable and the receiving surface is ready for controlled trimming.

Plan the surface handover

BeforeComplete major excavation and isolate unsuitable ground.
Work stageMeasure the remaining high and low areas. Reduce load size and cutting depth as the surface approaches its target.
AfterProtect the finished area from uncontrolled traffic and schedule the next layer.

What to verify

Check local levels and continuity through joins, not only the average elevation.

Confirm the proposed configuration, worksite conditions and intended use before deployment. Describe the function required and assess it with the complete tractor and implement combination. Concept illustrations are not confirmation of available equipment or approved loading.

Scope and limits

Fine grading cannot rescue a weak formation hidden beneath a neat finish.
