Problem Diagnosis

Uneven Topsoil

Uneven topsoil can mean different layer depths even when the upper surface looks smooth. That matters when the next use requires a consistent growing layer.

Plan the surface handover

BeforeCheck topsoil depth separately from overall surface elevation.
Work stageRedistribute the growing medium above the accepted underlying formation and keep unsuitable layers separate.
AfterComplete cultivation, planting or turf establishment.

What to verify

Measure depth in both former high and low areas.

Diagnosis should distinguish the visible symptom from its cause. Record whether the fault appeared after traffic, a water event, settlement or earlier earthworks. That history helps decide whether the response is a local surface correction, a drainage intervention or a more substantial investigation.

Scope and limits

Do not use topsoil as a remedy for an uncorrected structural formation.
