Soils & Materials
Moist Soil Grading
Moist soil may be workable, but excessive moisture can lead to rutting and deformation. A simple hand observation is useful for planning but does not replace required testing.

Plan the surface handover
BeforeAssess ground support and the material's response to traffic.
Work stageChoose a working window that permits controlled cutting and placement without excessive disturbance.
AfterComplete cultivation or specified compaction preparation.
What to verify
Check the finish after the next operation, not only immediately after grading.
Material roles matter as much as surface levels. Growing medium, structural fill and pavement aggregate should not be treated as interchangeable simply because all can be moved by a scraper. The preparation and acceptance method must follow the intended layer.
Scope and limits
Do not declare engineering moisture compliance from appearance alone.
Continue the job brief
Include the location, existing condition, intended surface, material, available tractor and proposed dates.
