Sandy material can shift during travel, discharge and repeated traffic. A finished shape may change unless the surface is prepared and protected for its intended use.

Work stageControl load and placement location; avoid uncontrolled spill and keep unlike layers separate.
AfterComplete the appropriate compaction or growing-medium preparation.
What to verify
Check the placed profile after the next preparation operation.
Material roles matter as much as surface levels. Growing medium, structural fill and pavement aggregate should not be treated as interchangeable simply because all can be moved by a scraper. The preparation and acceptance method must follow the intended layer.
Scope and limits
Loose sand is not automatically suitable road base or engineered fill.
